Gender-Based Violence, Bullying, and Mental Health Awareness with Teenagers

As schools reopened and learners returned to their academic journey, Intouch Youth Development & Community Justice took a bold and purposeful step by hosting a dynamic awareness and prevention session focused on Gender-Based Violence (GBV), femicide, bullying, and mental health, specifically engaging with teenagers during this critical period of reintegration. This initiative was born out of our unwavering commitment to safeguarding young lives and nurturing a generation that is socially conscious, emotionally aware, and courageously accountable. The session offered teenagers a safe space to confront the realities of GBV and femicide not as abstract concepts, but as urgent challenges rooted in everyday interactions, silence, and harmful societal norms.

We placed intentional emphasis on bullying and mental health, recognizing the deep psychological scars left by peer-to-peer violence, and how these often serve as gateways to broader cycles of trauma and abuse. Through guided dialogue and interactive exercises, the young participants were conscientized to recognize their individual power, responsibility, and agency in shaping safe and inclusive environments both in school and in society. We challenged them to take full ownership of their actions, their language, and their choices, and to stand as voices of accountability not only in resisting violence but in actively building a culture of respect, empathy, and care.

This was more than an awareness session it was a call to moral courage and leadership. We do not merely seek to inform; we aim to transform mindsets, shift behavior, and ignite a new narrative where young people are not only protected but also empowered to protect others. At Intouch Youth Development & Community Justice, we remain steadfast in our mission to end violence in all its forms, and we believe the future is brighter when teenagers are equipped not just with knowledge, but with values, responsibility, and resolve. Together, we are raising a generation that will refuse to be silent, refuse to be complicit, and rise to be catalysts of justice and healing in their communities.
